This is what’s left of the cathedral edifice a few hours after super typhoon Yolanda hit the island of Leyte. Only the concrete walls remain standing. Experts alone can declare if the edifice is fit for reconstruction or a new church should be built on the same site.
Palo Metropolitan Cathedral is one of the many interesting tourist spots in Leyte. Constructed in 1596 under the direction of the Jesuits who founded Palo. The church served as evacuation hospital during World War II.
