Visiting Gensan remains a dream

Hubby’s relatives in Gensan

The family always discussed about visiting relatives in General Santos City. But up to this day, the plan remains a plan. It’s like wishing for the best luxury paris apartment rentals when we only rely on our meager salary. We couldn’t just travel without pocket money and air fare. And we have to stay somewhere. It might be embarrassing to the relatives if they take us all in one house. We barely know most of hubby’s relatives and we still need to warm up with them. So, hubby thought of ditching the idea of going home until we are financially stable.

Improvise your own pool

While everyone else flocks to the beach this summer, some still prefer to stay at home and be comfy in their own makeshift pool. If I have a bigger space at home, I would setup a king size pool of our own. Besides being cost-effective, I’m confident that everybody’s safe from accidents as I can watch them especially the younger ones. Makeshift pools are good for non-swimmers too (in my opinion). And since we are swimming in the confines of our own backyard/front yard, no one will dictate what and what not to wear while wading in our shallow pool. As for the pool’s color, it’s difficult to decide. Should I buy gold bars-colored pool or the one with blue shade? Better ask the kids.

Fort Santiago visit

Going out in the scorching heat of the sun is not advisable health-wise, but two Saturdays ago, we were blessed with partly cloudy skies that we were able to go out and visit Fort Santiago. We’ve been planning to visit this place for the longest time. But it was only realized last April 13.

The Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception or Manila Cathedral is one of the oldest churches in Manila. Have a Kalesa trip via this horse-drawn carriage (right photo) in Intramuros.

We were like tourists visiting the place for the first time. While I was busy taking some pictures on our way to Fort Santiago, hubby was explaining something to the kids about the Manila Cathedral.

Tickets are still affordable.

The kids don’t want their photographs taken with these life-size cardboard standees (left photo), so it’s just hubby and me.

“One of the oldest Hispanic stone fortresses in the country. In pre-colonial times, this was the site of Rajah Soliman’s “kuta” or fort. The Spaniards under the term of Governor Gomez Perez Dasmarinaz fortified what was originally stone structures.”(Taken from a flyer handed out at ticket booth.)

All tired, but happy.
All tired, but happy.

I would not trade the smile and laughter that the family shared while we were at the park. We went home tired but brought with us an experience that we will always cherish.

Fort Santiago is located at Plaza San Luiz Complex, Cor. Real and General Luna Sts.
