Sending messages now and then

My uncle used to work in a telegraph and telephone company in the late 70’s to early 80’s. I had a vivid recollection of him sorting out pieces of paper with short messages on it and insert them in plastic window envelopes. Their branch office was small and I remember they had this peculiar looking manual typewriter and another electric typewriter.

Holiday season was the busiest period to him and his co-workers. Customers would flock to their office and have their Christmas or love messages sent to their loved ones using inspiring selection of cards.

I’m not so sure if sending flowers through a singing messenger was part of their company’s services then, but they do send lovely roses locally especially during Valentine’s Day. Nowadays, you can record music and messages using virus ti to enhance the sound and send them via the internet.

Today, the company offers various services, apart from providing long distance calls both domestic and international; they also send native specialties from Manila, Cebu and Mindanao all year round.

My uncle spent a good part of his life in that company until he stopped working in mid-80s.

I have been quite lazy recently; maybe things are already taking a toll on me. I hardly opened my emails and I know I should have so I will not be so overwhelmed when I finally check my inbox but I was hard-headed. And after a few hours of sorting and marking, I am finally done! Gaa, if only these things can be left cluttered like that, I will just open my email once in a blue moon.

If there is a good things about me opening my email, that would be the seat sale alert! I am checking where we can go next year for a little vacation. I am trying now to check the fares but I get stuck at the online sale option!

Well-deserved treat

Our nephew G, a nurse in a government hospital in Dubai, is earning enough to support his parents and younger siblings. I heard from relatives that G was able to help his father pay their accumulated debt through his monthly remittance. My BIL is lucky to have G as their son.

Since G is earning his own money now, he can also buy stuff for himself. I read from his Facebook status that he is looking for a violin and hardly decide which brand to choose so he is asking his FB friends to help him select. violin cost may not be a problem since he is earning enough to buy one. By this time, I’m sure he already bought a violin.

G is doing a good job in Dubai, I hope that his employer will renew his contract.
